What’s in your pantry? These are just some of the ingredients I always have on hand to cook and bake with. It’s a good list if you’re starting from a bare cupboard.
Spices and seasonings
- Sea salt or coarse salt
- Fine iodized salt
- Whole pepper corns
- Ground black pepper
- Soy sauce
- Patis (fish sauce)
- White vinegar
- Red vinegar
- Ketchup
- Banana sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
- Tabasco or hot sauce
- Mayonnaise
- Prepared mustard
- Bouillon cubes – beef and chicken
- Liquid seasoning
- Monosodium glutamate (optional, but with care, a little goes a long way)
- Bay leaves
Oils and fats
- Cooking oil / vegetable oil (corn, soy, palm, canola)
- Salad oil or olive oil
- Butter
- Margarine
- Shortening
Sugar and sweeteners
- White sugar
- Brown sugar
- Confectioners sugar / powdered sugar
- Corn syrup
- Honey
Dairy
- Fresh milk
- Evaporated milk
- Condensed milk
- Cheddar or quickmelt cheese
- All-purpose cream
Dry ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- Cake flour
- Baking soda
- Baking powder
- Yeast
- Rice
- Noodles – mami, sotanghon, canton, bihon, misua
- Pasta – spaghetti, linguine, angel hair, elbow macaroni
- Cocoa powder
- Chocolate for baking – semi-sweet blocks or chips
Fresh ingredients
- Eggs
- Onions
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Calamansi and/or lemon
- Tomatoes
- Potatoes
- Chilis – bird’s eye and finger chili
Others
- Coffee
- Tea
- Charcoal to deodorize the refrigerator and for barbecuing
